Occasionally, perhaps once a generation, a creative artwork will blossom - seeping into our social consciousness. Something so culturally impactful that future TV and Movie adaptations become almost inevitable.
Within the realm of video games, however, rarely have such adaptive works flourished nor reflected their source material with the kind of faithful reverence and respect that The Last of Us TV Series pays its inspiration.
Too often, despite initially faithful intentions and bulky budgets, video game resurrections resemble nothing more than shallow reflections lost in translation, as soulless revivals that never quite capture the timeless magic of their predecessors.
Thankfully, The Last of Us TV series is no such case and more than exceeds typical standards in this regard. Steered under the directorial stewardship of Chenobyl's Craig Mazin, TLOU tells the heart-rendering tale of two unlikely souls trekking across a ravaged United States, ripped apart by a highly contagious plague known as Cordyceps.
With this terrifying pretext and post-apocalyptic dystopia playing out in the backdrop, The Last of Us HBO TV Series tracks the lives of Joel and Ellie. Two strangers who find their lives entwined amidst harsh and inhospitable circumstances, whose struggle for survival forms the most unlikely of bonds.
