Slicky produced and splattered with unforeseen frights, Sick (2023) handily establishes itself in fertile slasher territory, blending razor-sharp thrills, glossy cinematics, and some savage gore sequences sure to satisfy genre lovers.
Amidst its runtime, Sick (2023) rarely puts a foot wrong. Tensely gripping, especially during its claustrophobic chase sequences and gruesome killstreaks, Sick (2023) resembles a far classier breed of slasher than your average trope fair, which, all in all, amounted to a compelling spectacle.
Along the way, expect one or two surprising plot twists sure to shock, alongside the odd social insight staged around our current times.
Without spoiling too much, in total, Sick (2023) contained at least three separate scenes that had me winching in sheer horror, one solely due to its eerily jarring visuals. The other two - let's just say, jaw to the floor gore!
Of course, Sick (2023) doesn't always avoid rehashing old horror tropes, like the cliched text from an anonymous contact, for instance, or the heavily recycled gimmick of a terrified protagonist opening the front door after an onslaught of obnoxious banging, only to find a vacant porch with no soul in sight.
But thanks to a largely engaging plot, strong leads, and a handful of solidly staged slasher sequences, it's well worth a watch!
