Scariest horror movies Showing In UK Theatres this Halloween 2022 | Barbarian Horror Movie Review:

It's premise definitely stumbles over a few plot holes, and the ending may leave an unsavoury taste, but brilliant acting, brutal layers of suspense, and an abominably wretched reveal make the Barbarian (2022) a chillingly compelling watch.

Sometimes it needs a swift gas injection pacing-wise, but the slow simmering style pays off dividends as, gradually, torturously, an abominably sinister truth is unmasked.

Reminiscent of the Coen Brothers' distinct storytelling style in many ways, The Barbarian (2022) issues an intriguingly layered tale that slowly and suspensefully unravels its mystery through fresh eyes.

Resultingly, you're often kept in the dark as to who these characters are and to what extent they relate as the slow-burning sense of tension intensifies in the direction of a darkly disturbing revelation.

Do dissect our horror movie review of Smile (2022) another of the scariest horror movies showing in theatres this Halloween 2022.

At points, the story lacks cohesion, and some character decisions are downright infuriating. But it doesn't matter all that much, as the roles are so convincingly carried out that it never spoils the experience.

Of equal note, Bill Skarsgard turns in a curiously charismatic performance, while Georgina Campbell is wholly convincing and on prime form in the lead role.

Mainly, The Barbarian (2022) opts to administer chills through a sense of dreaded suspense that starts off strong and dissipates throughout the film. Yet, its sharpest most effective frights form in darkly claustrophobic conditions, when the truly hellish terror eerily presents itself from murky shadowy spaces.

Elsewhere, gore-enthusiasts will find plenty of blood-splattered eye candy to digest, as will fans of elaborately stomach-wrenching practical effects.

Definitely scary and savagely gory in parts, the Barbarian (2022) is well worth eyeballs for fans of layered suspense and monstrously hideous reveals.

Sadly, some questionable character decisions and a few niggling plot holes prevent this chillingly creepy film from achieving greatness. That said, it remains intensely gripping and chillingly creepy throughout.

All in all, Barbarian is, without a doubt, one of the scariest horror movies screening in UK theatres this Halloween 2022.
