Satan's Slaves 2: Communion Review | Story Synopsis
"When the heavy storm hits, it wasn't the storm that a family should fear but the people and non-human entities who are out for them."
Satan's Slaves 2: Communion (2022) Review
Starting in slow-burn style, Satan's Slaves 2: Communion spends its opening moments cranking up palpable tension by secreting intriguing layers of suspense. But what ominously follows as the story unravels is a dread-conjuring nightmare into hell, which torturously sinks its teeth in deep - rarely lessening its stranglehold on the psyche.
Compellingly shot and anchored by convincing performances, Joko Anwar's supernatural sequel to 2017's horror smash hit makes for engrossing viewing right from the opening scene.
Yet even setting aside its impactful spooks and scares, of which there are many, Satan's Slave 2: Communion presents a cinematic spectacle worth watching.
A tension-building affair for large parts, outright thrillseekers may take issue with pacing. However, those who dare venture beyond the hour mark will discover a bone-chilling collection of worthwhile frights guaranteed to trigger shivers.
Towards the end, two scenes, in particular, chilled my blood cold, including a sinisterly creepy corridor sequence and a wholly unexpected jump fright that made me leap from my skin.
All in all, fans of suspenseful Indonesian horror searching for effective frights will want to watch Satan's Slave: Communion.
