The young killer protege packs a compelling premise, and at times, Halloween Ends issues a thrillingly suspenseful watch, but fans of slasher icon Mike Myers may consider his demise dissatisfying.

Halloween Ends (2022) Story Synopsis

This is Laurie Strode's last stand. After 45 years, the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying conclusion as Laurie Strode faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers, in a final confrontation unlike any captured on-screen before. Only one of them will survive.

For large parts, Halloween Ends focuses firmly on passing the torch. At this stage in the trilogy's timeline, the notorious killer's physical condition has worsened significantly, having previously sustained injuries from the pursuing mob.

Now, seemingly in no fit state to conduct his merciless murders, Myers imparts his evil malevolence onto Corey. It's a chilling concept, in theory, that never quite gets fleshed out the way it should.

Driven by largely convincing performances and a tensely unveiled plot, Myer's suspenseful resurrection leads to one final showdown with Laurie.

Overall, I enjoyed how Mike Myers seemingly feeds off Laurie's heightened sense of fear. Almost as if he somehow musters strength through their unseen spiritual connection. In a way, paying faithful lip service to the underlying themes of the franchise.

Perhaps illustrating, above all else, that evil isn't bound to mortal flesh or one individual, it's an ever-shifting force that corrupts the souls of the living.

Myer's death may symbolize a dissatisfying demise for fans of the franchise, but it's a carefully considered one, nonetheless. Unfortunately, Halloween Ends is not nearly as brutal nor gruesomely gory as its predecessor, which is a shame since it marks Mike Myers' final affair.

All in all, Halloween Ends will prove to be a divisive experience. And while it has notable plus points, fans of Mike Myers may feel as though it fails to capture the iconic character's true evil essence.
