Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Cocaine Bear delivers goofy humor, gruesome gore, and outlandish gimmicks at the expense of a sometimes topsy-turvy script - a small price to pay for how ultimately fun a thrill ride this drug-induced road trip ends up being.
Though the story can sometimes stray off course, by and large, there's plenty here for be-movie fanatics to feast on. Not least, an array of witty one-liners and zany gags that will likely leave you in stitches.
Sure, the film's not without its faults, but, in the end, Cocaine Bear strikes a nice balance between humor and horror, knowing, for the most part, when not to take itself too seriously.
Conversely, it's not afraid to indulge in gory kill sequences or prolong the awkwardness of its quirky comedy. Perhaps not surprising, considering this is, after all, a film starring a cocaine-snorting bear in the midst of a drug-induced rampage.
Still, I admire its guts and tenacity.
Cocaine Bear (2023) is not always coherently told, but laugh-out-loud moments, sharply delivered lines, and a delightfully wacky premise more than fill in any of the cracks.
All in all, an absolute must-see for b-movie enthusiasts.
